Viasat Annual Reports

CREATIVE DIRECTION / ART DIRECTION

Annual reports at Viasat used to serve a double purpose: A financial report for investors and shareholders, as well as a yearbook of sorts in which employees could see themselves. I eventually convinced executives that these were very different functions, and it took the creation of an actual yearbook for them to agree. Until then, I did have some fun finding creative ways to showcase our employees in a way that would please both them and our investors.

Launched

This award-winning annual report doubled as a celebration of the remarkable feat of launching our first satellite. I was inspired by the enormity of our accomplishment, and featured an unprecedented number of all the tireless employees who worked behind the scenes, in of each of our business units, to make it happen. The art direction of the photo shoots itself was quite an achievement, but well worth the effort: The annual report was a big hit with employees, and we leveraged the photos for several other projects, including corporate brochures, trade shows, and wall posters on campus.

25th Anniversary Edition

Metallic silver print and fold-outs showing how far we've come on our journey was the perfect way to celebrate Viasat's silver anniversary. 'V' for Viasat naturally lent itself to an XXV theme and a forward signal (when rotated). And a tear-out poster of employee photos on metallic silver made for a great poster for employees.

Taking Center Stage

The followup edition to "Launched" also featured our employees, this time as stars on stages communicating the new services we offer. One of the needs of the piece was to have a theme that appealed to everyone, and who doesn't love the thought of putting on a show?

Awards: Graphis, and LACP Vision Award
